Winter Camper Rescued From Algonquin Park

A winter camping trip in Algonquin Park ended with the help of rescuers.

A 424 Squadron Griffon helicopter was called into action on Thursday night, responding to a missing persons call in the park.

Police say that a group of winter campers had set up camp in the Western Uplands Trail area.

OPP Emergency Response Team, Canine Unit, Aviation services, paramedics and the Joint Rescue Coordination Center were called out for the search. OPP say that all groups except the canine unit had to be called off due to poor weather conditions.

Search and Rescue techs located the camper 8 kilometers inside the park. He was taken to hospital for non-life-threatening, exposure-related injuries.
